- Custom is a modular couch made of two chairs and one item. A modular couch is adaptable, accepting of the nuances of whatever space it is in, whoever it seats. Space, community, and ritual are intertwined. I sat at a couch at a party and began talking to the random person next to me, a new friend. My mother and grandmother have their tea at the couch every morning. When my friend needs a place to sleep, I set up the couch for them. The intention of this object is to transform a space into something that is inviting and empowering, finding a balance between comfort and courage.
