Artist Statement: -
I am a street documentary photographer shooting the cultural environment in Corona, Queens. I can capture my Hispanic heritage through the community that I live in while contrasting it with the greater city that looms over it. Acknowledging the issues and lives that aren't looked at, provides the community with eyes that sense the reality of what it takes to be a part of the city.
The working-class Hispanic makes ends meet on the street selling, or the kids playing, enjoying their childhood while other kids live adult lives. People are people in real time finding their way through life. My New York is not yours, you might not understand it.
Coming from Mexican-born parents gives me a different view of life than most. I have traveled back and forth from my parent's home to mine, bringing back astonishing views of my culture.
Saturated cropland, rich animal and plant life, and the people who call their town, home. Being true to the beauty of the land my parents once lived by documenting the space and its people.
Photography becomes an extension of self once the first frame is shot. I am always with my camera; the experience is worth waiting and capturing its essence. Each frame can be related to a moment in my life, it's documented in a way that can bring someone in a while providing a sense of story in an image. - Medium/Materials/Techniques
