- Summary/Artist's Statement
- Artist Statement:
- I am an illustrator and fashion designer originally from China and now based in New York. I love fashion and observing people, objects, time, and space. As images are being formed with emotions in my mind, I let them flow out naturally onto the paper. Realism is my main style, and I mostly use watercolor and digital to create my fashion world. My art and fashion work are more than just mere clothing. As I embark on my creative journey, I aspire to express the emotions and thoughts from my inner world through the lens of fashion and my creativity.
- About this Work:
- This project serves as an imaginative exploration into the next era of our world, envisioning our lasting imprint on our history. It weaves together nature, history, humanity, architecture, and fashion, crafting an archaeological scene that resembles a museum from the future yet to unfold.
- Inspired by the exhibition "PERPETUAL PRESENT" by one of my favorite artists Daniel Arsham, whose art delves into realms of 'fictional archaeology,' I intend to bring the audience on a journey to create a futuristic archaeological tableau using excavated arches. These arches unveil a kaleidoscope of buildings, animals, and symbols bridging past and present, walking towards the next epoch slowly but in a determined way.
- I propose to the viewer a core question: 'In the future, what in our current world will become artifacts and be memorialized by future generations?' This narrative invites the audience to step into my realm, pondering with me the significance of representative elements and objects that will leave a legacy. We can not prevent any life or object from disappearing, but those meaningful ones will keep influencing future civilizations.
- This project includes four distinct images, each encompassing a different scene. They converge into a full image through the evolving arches that symbolize the passage of time. The four images in my project are not listed in chronological order. Instead, the characters and objects are arranged based on my aesthetic and understanding without the restrictions of time and space. The viewer can find LEGO figures, the iconic polka dots of Yayoi Kusama, sculptures by Jeff Koons, and fashion elements I like. These items form a line towards an unknown but exciting future. In the background, magnifying glasses and excavated arches contrast with the rich color gradients to represent the future. All elements together form an archeological scene that might take place in a thousand years.
- I invite the viewer to think about contemporary objects and elements that matter the most to them and create individual meaningful memories with me through the work.
