Abstract
In an experiential environment, the ultimate goal is to evoke a sense of awareness in the visitor that ends up being unique to the individual. No matter the topic, a visitor should be able to leave the environment having learned something as well as questioning the topic they've engaged in, yearning to know more. The purpose of this thesis to an experiential exhibition design execution followed this notion in its playful eagerness to remind those that their words have access to creating a whole world of magic, if one simply wishes to tap into their innate imagination.
It’s Magic: Let Words Guide You, is an environment in which creating as one speaks can lead into a multitude of learning experiences. From the history of the word abracadabra, how imagination occurs in one’s mind, reminding individuals that words have the power to change lives, visualizations, and granting wishes, the purpose of the environment is to instill moments of thoughtfulness and higher levels of awareness for not only the children that experience it, but for their adult counterparts as well. Human beings have the wonderful ability to manifest anything they desire with the power of language and imagination.
The presentation of this project acquired positive feedback, with the exception of a few positive remarks included that of the interpretative design approach for the exterior structure of the tent, as well as clear concise graphics. Even the use of the star wand was highly regarded in that it was a tool used to give children the ability to learn and explore important life skills. Comments for improvement were to have more inclusion of the research that was done in this paper, as content graphics and directives for each activity the visitor engages in. Additionally, the overall site plan needs to be included in order for one to get an idea of the flow of space.
Designed to be an unconventional experience for those who witness and engage in it, It’s Magic has the potential to be fully fleshed out into a setting in which one can recollect their treasured place in the world and spread to others the ability to enjoy creating in every moment of one’s life.
