Summary/Artist's Statement
I was always an artistic individual, but never felt I could create a career from my art. It was through the encouragement of my mom that I decided to go into fashion design. Looking back now I realize what led me to this day. When I learned to sew for my application, I instantly fell in love and gained an appreciation for garment construction and design. Sportswear allowed me to continue perfecting my craft in construction, patternmaking, and developing my design aesthetic. Unlike others who have already established their aesthetic, I am still working on finding mine. My experiences in life heavily inspire my work, but I try not to limit myself when I design. I do, however, create pieces to make women feel confident and appreciate a well-made garment. I consider myself a fashion designer, maker, and seamstress, and someday I hope to become a successful small business owner.
Image 1: “La Pelea Civil” collection reflects the tumultuous relationship between Salvadorean gangs and police officials. This juxtaposition is showcased through streetwear and aspects such as fabrication, silhouette, and garment details. Their Salvadorean heritage is celebrated through hand-crafted textile work and details.
Image 2: Utilitarian vest constructed from canvas. It is clean-finished with welt pockets and an invisible zipper on the center back. Quilted puffer bandeau constructed with nylon with side zipper openings.
Image 3: Balaclava, a head and neck covering, is constructed in knit fabric. It can also be worn as a neck warmer.
Image 4: Side view.
Image 5: Full view of look includes wide straight-legged jeans with wide waistband and large pocket and belt loop with large clip for common tools used in El Salvador.
