Summary/Artist's Statement
I came from Taiwan, a nation surrounded by ocean with land that's smaller than half of New York State in size. I am drawn to the diverse and vibrant culture of New York City, a place where I express myself most freely with constant inspiration from people who are both energetic and the most heartfelt at the same time. To me, fashion is not merely about looking good, but a deliberate tool to demonstrate our best self mentally. In my thesis collection, I explore various design elements from fine art, architecture, and psychology through a perspective that's influenced by both Eastern aesthetic and New York expressionism.
Image 1: This collection is a reflection on quarantine. It documents a flow of thoughts and fluid forms used to encompass a wide range of deep and troubling emotions.
Image 2: Inspired by French-American artist Louise Bourgeois who created comfort and shelter through artwork.
Image 3: Louise Bourgeois's shell-like sculptures inspired my exploration of the correlation of formless thoughts, the human figure, and body movement.
Image 4: Draped with gazar, linen and charmeuse, the design is evolving through organic shapes that reflect my various moods.
Image 5: Pleated on the bias, the manipulated gazar fabric holds the structure, allowing the light fabric to wrap around the body.
