- Summary/Artist's Statement
- My thesis collection shines a light on the complex journey a black woman faces when navigating societal expectations, an experience that leads to isolation, misunderstanding, and confusion. Despite this she emerges feeling empowered, seen, and beautiful. This change symbolizes a rebirth as she sheds her old self and embraces her purpose. This metamorphosis mirrors a caterpillar’s transition to a butterfly. The black woman discovers her innate beauty and strength, spreading her wings confidently as she embraces all facets of her identity.
