Abstract
In the intricate fabric of human understanding, color intertwines seamlessly with our feelings and perceptions. It acts as an influential means of expression, molding our emotional landscapes and connecting us intimately with our environment, while also shaping our artistic preferences. Take, for instance, an artist’s album release, where a distinct color palette becomes forever associated with the music, creating a lasting link for the fanbase. This illustrates the profound impact of color on our daily existence and its pivotal role in shaping cultural references. This thesis delves into the complex dynamics of human perception of color, emphasizing the need to improve accessibility to color experiences.
This document is comprised of two parts :
In the first part, the research delves into the intricacies of how individuals subjectively experience and interpret color, exploring the psychological, cultural, and physiological factors that contribute to this perceptual diversity.
The second part, focuses on bringing the research to life through designing an experience that makes you tap into your other senses apart from visual cues in order to experience color. ‘Symphony of Colors’ advocates how color can be used as an effective tool of communication apart from its aesthetic significance, as it has the ability to convey emotions, evoke memories, and establish connections. The experience is further narrowed down to the subject of synesthesia1, a neurological condition in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive stream leads to associated experiences in a second, unstimulated stream.
