Summary/Artist's Statement
For my thesis project, "Caring for Caregivers," I designed a 14-story retreat center for medical caregivers of terminally ill patients. The goal of this center is to focus on these caregivers' self-care and their own mental, emotional, and physical health. To design this center, I built a model in SketchUp which was then rendered in Enscape, with finishing touches being added in Photoshop. The center was designed to help the caregivers relax and take time for themselves. Two areas that do just that are the pool, which is located on the basement level, and the meditation center, which is found on the 14th floor. The pool is meant to be a cool, refreshing area for guests to relax. The meditation center is to be used for guests' self-exploration and to stimulate their mind, body, and soul.
"Careing for Caregivers" project
The pool offers guests a chance to engage in aquatic therapy. Guests can take a dip in the cool, refreshing waters to relax and unwind. The water can help ease the tension in ones body and allows for further stress relief.
The meditation center offers guests a space to connect with their minds, bodies, and souls. Spirits will be uplifted in this area as guests learn to engage in themselves and explore their selves. It will provide guests adequate space and time to do exactly that, so when they exit they will feel refreshed and at peace.
