“Home” is always a remembering place that contains memories, no matter whether with parents, brothers, or sisters. Therefore, the emotions towards "home" must be complicated. It can bring joy, fulfillment, and a sense of connection, but it can also be challenging and sometimes painful. But whether we love or hate it, we cannot erase the traces of home.
One day we will leave home to find ourselves and live our own lives.
Maybe time just always punishes those who are still stuck in the past.

Savannah Shack De La Cruz aims to turn her visions and daydreams into reality. She investigates underwater photography and the idea of integrating it into the scenery of New York City in her project Not That Deep. Through her creative portraits, she tries to capture her personal interest in futurism and dystopia. Through her journey, she has come to the realization that her work is really Not That Deep, and that she prefers to create pieces for the visual rather than fabricate philosophical interpretations for them. Her objective is to use the skill set she's acquired throughout her time in college to create visually appealing dystopian artwork that stems from her daydreams and interests.

This series of images is about the post-Phantom of the Opera on Broadway world. It focuses on not only the ever changing Majestic theater but also the closing cast, fans, and most importantly myself. Phantom has been a major part of my life since I was 10 years old, and to live in a world where I can no longer stop by the theater to get tickets makes me uneasy. It has been a constant throughout my life and now it is gone. So, to help me and my friends, and the actors cope with the loss of our favorite Broadway show I want to create as many portraits of them and of the actors as possible.
I remember first hearing the announcement that Phantom would be closing. I had taken a nap in between my classes and the first thing I saw when I opened Twitter was an article from the NY Post, titled “‘Phantom of The Opera’ to close after 35 years on Broadway”. To say my heart sank to my stomach would be an understatement. The tears immediately started flowing down my face. I had facetimed my mom while she was at work and she couldn’t understand anything I was saying. It felt as if the entire world had stopped spinning.

For Furensic Fauxtographs, I put a playful twist on autopsy, forensics, and anatomy. Using my experience as a forensic photographer, I create a mockup of an autopsy and forensic photography using children's toys and self made dioramas. I will be using an animal figurine as the decedent, and organ stuffed toys as the specimens. I want my images to have a clean and clinical aesthetic, and I will be using the same exact techniques as I do at work. My goal for this project will be to destigmatize death and the human body, and educate people on anatomy and autopsy in a palatable way.
